As a brand with deep roots in Istanbul, we are devastated over one of the most tragic catastrophes in Turkish recent history.  Thousands of lives have been lost in the earthquakes that affected more than 10 cities in Turkey and many more in Syria. We know of many whose friends, relatives, neighbors, or colleagues lost their lives, homes, or loved ones.

While we have been heartbroken, it’s been heartwarming at the same time to see many show support, over social media and even in some cases going in person to help. Some wounds will never be healed but for now we have to get up and rebuild our cities.

At ELSE, we started manufacturing basic cotton underwear with the help of our vendors who have been donating materials.  The initiative simply came from our team members, some of whom have traveled to the epicenter of the earthquake to help.  We are grateful for their initiative.

We are also donating a portion of our revenue from our online sales, and are collecting direct donations on our website.  All of these donations will be sent to the Turkish NGO ‘Ahbap’ (which means “buddy” or “pal”). This organization has already donated around 500 million turkish liras (approximately $28 million USD) to provide shelter, food and hygiene for earthquake survivors. Learn more at ahbap.org and @ahbap on social media.

We will also keep you updated on our donations on our website, emails and social channels. Visit our site now to donate and learn more.

Thank you for your help and support, and for being a part of our extended family.
